Three Tips For News and Media Companies on How To Leverage Facebook

An interesting post by Gourav of Gauravonomics.

Useful tips from the post:

1. Create content that your readers want to share with their friends.

2. Build a strong Facebook Page with a large subscriber base and encourage fans to share content with their friends with a clear call to action.

3. On your own website, make it easy to share content on Facebook, by doing a deep Facebook Connect integration and displaying Share on Facebook buttons prominently.

Quick Question: If everybody shares the information, who is gonna read it?

Somehow this question has been itching me for some days. With the the latest tools and information sources, everybody gets to read somuch everyday. And the same is being read by other people also.

Sometimes they share the same information. And that becomes duplicate. This is what I have been feeling.

Why do we share information (or) posts from other blogs/sources if the same can be read directly? What is the value you are getting or the receiver is getting when you share some information?

Do we need to rethink this practice (or) it's okay to continue?

Or do we need to write our own view on the information/news we have 'disovered' and then share it?

In search of answers to the above questions...

Re-entry into Social World!

Yes. This is my second entry into the Social World. I was actively following the developments in this space back in 2007. It was an accidental discovery to find the word "Social Media". Though I was using interent, I wasn't an active participant in "Friend Networks" like Orkut. Everybody else were very active and spending lots of time in communicating with their friends.

Some how I thought it was waste of time. I generally on constant search for good website design to get inspiration. One day I was using some bank website and wanted to checkout who developed it. I got to their website and found interesting. They were talking about this Social Media, Social Networks, Conversation Marketing, Web 2.0 etc. It was very interesting to know all these things.

Later I Googled on all these concepts and shocked to see all the developments in online world. I understood that there had been LOTs of new things.

Basically following are some of the things I understood:

1) People are actively 'participating' in various activies of the online world.

2) They are 'connecting' with other people of their interest and 'sharing' a variety of things

3) They are 'helping' others with solutions actively

4) They are 'talking' about their experiences with the brands. Other people are following these discussions in making a decision to purchase a service/product.

5) Websites also started becoming more trendy, light and 'open'. They are providing facilities for the people to engage with the website, contribute to the website and also promote the websites.

6) Various tools made it possible to access the content from any device.

7) People are producing video and 'sharing' them, inturn helping other people who are in need of them.

And some more.

More people were facinated by this concept and started providing 'free' information about all latest happenings.

Everything has become "FREE", well almost!. I did not see this much 'flexibility' back in 2000. There thousands of applications online with which you can run most of your operations for FREE. I was wondering how could these companies survive if they offer everything for FREE?

But after observing some business models like our famous Search Giant, it was clear for me. Offer something for FREE to make people believe in you and introduce some premium service, which people will not resist.

Now we are in a situation, where we cannot live without using some of the tools given to us by the above company.

So what is the "Mantra" of this age?

"CREATE", "CONNECT", "SHARE"
